It’s Not Just the Garage.
With the days getting longer you can start to feel spring in the air. It will soon be time to pull out the kids’ bikes and scooters for the season. Give yourself more time for fun this year by getting the garage organized and prepared for the warm days ahead.
Start with creating a plan; we all have busy lives, so release the guilt of not being able to do it “all at once” and break it down into smaller tasks. As you complete these tasks you will begin to feel more confident and be able to keep the momentum going.
Now the fun part - decluttering! When we let go of the clutter and extra stuff we don’t use, it gives us more space for creativity, calmness, and things we enjoy. Ask yourself, “When was the last time I actually used this?”. Items you have no use for don’t necessarily have to be thrown out. Consider creating a donation and recycling pile to reduce waste.
Now that you’ve determined what you’re keeping, check to see if there is anything that can be stored somewhere else. We tend to let the garage become the catch-all during the cold months. Once the purge is complete you can begin to organize what’s left in a way that works best for you.
Here are three tips for organizing the garage:
Go vertical - utilize the empty space above you to maximize your storage capacity.
Hang what you can - using hooks to hang tools and hoses will keep the floor clear and tidy.
Labels for the family - adding labels where you can will help family members know where to put things back after using them.
Because everything you own needs a home.
